They will travel to Washington DC to compete. Piedmont Tech. and Kevin Moore was able to give the team a big helping hand by providing them with a new base and electronic system for their robot and other members also helped by giving them ideas and small parts to finish the manipulator.
March 7, 2008 Meeting
FIRST Lego League Greenwood Scrimmage
The FLL scrimmage was a great success, it went off without a hitch. We had 7 teams from around the state and we gave out 10 awards, every team went home a winner.
"We appreciate your efforts to host the scrimmage. It was a huge morale booster for our team, the kids were able to more than double their performance score from 1st to 3rd round. I was more than shocked at the outcome. I was hoping they would get a feel for what an actual event is like since most of them have never seen a tournament."
Thanks again!

November 2, 2007 Meeting
The student board members of GRIP presented a thank-you gift to Piedmont Technical College for their support over the past year. PTC has enabled GRIP to have monthly meetings and other activities to reach out to the Greenwood community.
Also in the last meeting we continued Lego Mindstorm training and getting ready for November's GRIP build-off.
The 1st night of the build off went very well. The group divided up into 3 teams and everyone started working on building and programming. Time when by fast. One team was able to build two robots and complete two challenges, the maze and a basket. Check out the rules and layout of what we are doing for this build off.
The challenge will be played on a 4 X 8 foot play field. Your team's job is to create two autonomous robots to perform the tasks in the table below.
Each team will have 2 turns and the best total points of the 2 will be used for that teams score.
A turn is when both robots for a team have run.
There's a time limit of 3 minutes for each turn.
For a task to be complete:
The robot cannot be touched between the time it leaves the base and the time it has completed the task. Once the task has been completed the robot may be removed from the playfield.
For the maze task, the robot must use ultrasonic sensors. The maze may be dynamic, but the starting point and maze complexity will stay the same.
For the cans task, the goal is to move all of the white cans out of their circle, without moving the black cans. Color recognition sensors will be required.
The ball task will require loading a ball onto the robot and the robot will deliver it to a basket.
For the bonus task, the robot must place a ball into one of the black cans without moving it.
