Youth GRIPping Technology
Greenwood Robotics Interactive Partners (GRIP) is a technology club for all individuals (beginners, professionals, and enthusiasts) who have an interest in learning about, developing, building, sharing knowledge, and competing with robots and other technologies. The club’s main objective is the technological educational enrichment of the areas youth, increased awareness of scientific methods, and enhancement of critical thinking skills through application of robotics technology. GRIP will help develop the skills that are valued in today’s economy such as team work, project management, and communicating effectively.
GRIP has a student board of directors with an adult adviser committee. GRIP holds club meetings and classes on basic robotics concepts and designs. We also organize fun and engaging club events, and competitions that will meet our goals, enhance the knowledge of club members and the general public.
GRIP also supports and helps create FIRST robotics competition teams. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotic competitions challenges teams of students and their mentors to solve a common problem in a given timeframe using a standard “kit of parts” and a common set of rules. Teams build robots from the parts and enter them in a series of competitions. The competitions have grown to over 6,500 teams competing in 420 regional events from around the world. The world championship is held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta where more than 10,000 students participate. FIRST redefines winning for these students. Teams are rewarded for excellence in design, demonstrated team spirit, gracious professionalism, and their ability to overcome obstacles. Membership to GRIP is open to all who are interested and we welcome non-technical individuals wanting to help mentor kids and become part of the GRIP vision. We welcome all ages and request that young members be accompanied by adults.
